What can the audience expect from the show?
“Well, we have a new bass player Oppu Laine. Actually he played on the first four Amorphis albums (“The Karelian Isthmus” (1992), “Tales From The Thousand Lakes” (1994), “Elegy” (1996) og “Tuonela” (1999), red.) and he is one of the original members of the band from the early 90’s. So there will be some old stuff in the setlist to celebrate his glorious comeback. Well, what can I say, we are far beyond 200 shows since “Under The Red Cloud” came out in 2015 when we reach VoxHall so I can promise that the band will be in good shape and put up a good show with lots of favorites from the past albums. And some from the latest album “Under The Red Cloud” also.”

What merch do you bring?
“We have a pretty good set of merch available. There will t-shirts with new designs, girlies, caps, beanies… All the stuff. Of course some patches and stuff like that too. We have a very nice new layout called “Bad Blood” in the merch. Everyone should check it out, its damn cool.”

Which song do you prefer performing live?
“Oh my… There is plenty of great tunes to play. Personally for me the best moments are the songs where I get to play a hell of a lot, which makes it more challenging for me. Songs like “Sampo”, “Under The Red Cloud” and “Bad Blood”. Of course “My Kantele” is always a special moment too. Especially now, thus we have an extended version of it in the setlist. In general all the songs with keyboard solos are great to play, it gives extra pressure so it’s more fun!”

How have your most recent concerts been?
“Well we’ve been touring with “Under The Red Cloud” like two years now with two hundred shows till this date. So there have been plenty of great concerts, and still more to come. Think we still have like 20 shows to go. Memorable concerts I could name was “The Juhlaviikko” show from Helsinki last summer from which we also put out an extra sort of acoustic live-cd with guest appearances. Also I think we nailed it in LoudPark Festival in Japan last year and of course this summer we played (again) in the Olavinlinna castle – a medieval castle in northeast Finland. That was an absolute peak from all the great shows, 2500 tickets sold in a medieval castle… What else could a musician want.”

How would you describe your bandmates?
“We are all pretty used to each other since probably nearly a thousand shows done since Tomi J. joined the band in 2005. And we’ve done even more shows in the past with different line-ups. We are pretty easy going guys nowadays. There is no big drama anymore. We’ve basically seen it all. Singer Tomi likes bodybuilding and privacy, other Tomi likes to rest a lot in the tour. Esa is always making tricks and jokes, maybe he’s like a Ritchie Blackmore of the band. Well if I’m the professor of the band as it usually is with the keyboard players. The drummer Jan must be the “not so silent” thinker of the band.”

Which live act (band and/or artist) is your favorite – and why?
“I would like to say Deep Purple, but I think nowadays it does not exist anymore for me like it used to do with a classic lineup. Maybe too many lineup changes till this date. Well it’s still ok, and one of the best bands ever existed in my opinion. Iron Maiden I’ve never seen put up a bad show, well maybe in the Blaze era? Not sure. At the moment I like “new” bands like Tool, Steven Wilson, Opeth and some others. New Mastodon sounded interesting too. My all time favourite is Ozric Tentacles – especially their 90’s era. I’ve seen them many times in the late 90’s and those are still some of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. Have not seen them for a while though, but maybe some day one more time.”

Do you have a new album in the making (and if so what can you tell us about it?)?
“We start working with the material in one month. In early October. We have almost 20 songs – kind of homedemos, which we’ll practice and start to arrange vocals. Esa and I have brought plenty of potential songs to the demo pool. So at least the amount of the material should not be the problem. Like it normally is not in our case. Time table will be pretty strict I must say. We have like a month to arrange the material. Then we do pre production with Jens Bogren (der også producerede “Under The Red Cloud”, red.) and continue to the studio right after. The sessions will be pretty similar to the last time, so we probably work with drums first like a week and after that the overdubbing which will take something like four to five weeks. So we’ll have the master in our hands sometime in January. If I remember correctly the release time frame is set on April-May 2018. And then we start touring again.”

What are your plans for the autumn and winter?
“Well, as said, in the autumn we make the next album. The spring looks to be pure holiday. And that is good for us. We’ve been basically on the road ever since “Under The Red Cloud” came out in September 2015, so I think everyone wants to spend some time with their families for a change.”

Heidra
